0019 - A Smile And A Ribbon

Swedish popstrels A Smile And A Ribbon are the first band on the blog I've actually had some personal dealings with - I offered to loan them a tent in the summer of 2007 when they were playing the first Indie Tracks festival at the Midland Railway Center in Derbyshire, a scenario that could perhaps have led to amusing tales of rock & roll camping excess had they not declined the offer.

The festival produced a compilation CD, and that's where I got the one AS&AR track I have, One Night Wonder:

While I think One Night Wonder is a very good song, it's a pity that the recording is a bit shabby. I realise that for a small festival like Indie Tracks was in its first year, getting permission to use the music of a signed band like AS&AR might not be straightforward, and it was kind of all the 22 bands on the CD to donate a song. This feels like an afterthought though - it might as well have been recorded by a bloke up the back at a gig on his mobile. It might actually have been recorded by a bloke up the back at a gig on his mobile.

Still, their guitarist looks like a young Leonard Nimoy, and what's a bit of shabby recording compared to that?
