The Ad Libs

Another group with just the one song in my collection, New Jersey's Ad Libs were genuine one-hit wonders with that one song, The Boy From New York City.

It's an excellent piece of doo-wop and made the US top-10 in 1965.  I first knew the song, though, when I was a very young lad and Darts had a big UK hit with a cover (1978... jeezo).

Rather excellently, the Ad Libs hit inspired an answer song, by the Beach Boys, no less, the imaginatively titled The Girl From New York City.  I do like an answer song.  I can't find a link to it though, so I guess you'd better go and get yourself a copy of Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!).  Here's their stonking cover of Do You Wanna Dance? instead.  Don't say I'm not good to you!

  1. Reminds me of Marvin Gaye's "Can I get a witness". Which can't be a bad thing...
