Aberfeldy

So I had this plan - one post per day, or more, if I had time and I was writing about artists I had little music by.  After all, I have a lot to get through.  But the real world has intervened and I'm falling way behind on my plan.  At this rate, I'll be lucky to get through A by the new year.

Aberfeldy then.  One song - result!

And it's a very good song indeed.  Love Is An Arrow is a nicely understated piece of grown up, somewhat twee, pop music.

A nice wee video too.

Reading the band's Wikipedia entry brings up this strange claim:

In 2003, Aberfeldy recorded fourteen songs with producer Jim Sutherland at his studio above Edinburgh's Bongo Club, using only one microphone and no overdubbing. The resulting tracks were licensed to Rough Trade Records and released in 2004 as the album Young Forever.
Love Is An Arrow is a track from Young Forever, and while the recording is decidedly lo-fi (and excellent - it may be a bit dry and mono for many tastes, but I think it's beautifully recorded), I can absolutely assure anyone reading this that it was not recorded using only one mic with no overdubbing.  It's not really relevant, but it seems a weird boast.

Anyway, I've had this a few years, but never really listened to it, so it's good to have discovered something new I like.  It's kind of the purpose of this whole project.  Yay for music!

AC/DC next and I have a lot to listen to.  I may be some time...
